BCFSA Joins CISRO in Celebrating National Insurance Awareness Day on June 28

National Insurance Awareness Day (“NIAD”) is a day of awareness for Canadians to review their insurance policies and have a discussion with their insurance professionals to ensure they have the right coverage for their homes and property. NIAD is a promotion from the Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organization (“CISRO”), the forum of provincial and territorial regulatory authorities for insurance intermediaries, and this year is focused on coverage related to natural disasters.

Natural disasters such as floods and forest fires have become more and more frequent across Canada. It’s vital that you as an insurance customer know what you are covered for under your property insurance for these kinds of situations. Some weather events are covered under your home insurance while others, such as earthquakes, may need to be added as additional coverage.

Here’s a useful checklist to use when you’re speaking with your agent, broker or insurer.

BCFSA also offers useful consumer resources on our website, including consumer alerts and a listing of insurance companies authorized to operate in B.C.
