How do mortgage brokers, principal brokers and mortgage brokerages differ?
A mortgage brokerage is the licensed business entity. These entities are often structured as a corporation or partnership. Each mortgage brokerage must have a principal broker, who is responsible for the brokerage’s supervision, compliance, and oversight. A mortgage broker is an individual licensed to provide mortgage services on behalf of a mortgage brokerage and is typically the person who works directly with clients.
